Textiles and the circular economy

Friday, 09. May 2025 / 12:00 – 12:30

Textiles are one of the biggest sources of waste worldwide. Fast fashion contributes to this. New paths need to be found through a transformation of the economy and a global circular economy. This is associated with major challenges. I report on the current status and point out possible and necessary paths for the future.Mr Backhausen has been working on the topic of the circular economy since 2007 and is one of the pioneers of the circular economy in Austria. As early as 2009, he converted all products in his former textile production company, "Backhausen Interior Textiles", to the "Cradle to Cradle" concept in the interests of a sustainable circular economy. Since 2015, he has been running his own consulting company specialising in the implementation of the circular economy in companies. He also offers support with product certification in accordance with the cradle-to-cradle approach in collaboration with the company EPEA-Hamburg. His consulting services also focus on CSRD, CO2 accounting, CSDDD, the Taxonomy Regulation and much more.

Mr Backhausen advises both national and international companies and accompanies them on the path to innovative transformation. He is convinced that the circular economy is the economic system of the future.
