Sixth edition of the Austrian trade fair double for kitchen, food, living breaks all records

2023-05-09

Salzburg kitchen living trends and möbel austria 2023 exceed all expectations - mood exceptionally high

The sixth event of the trade fair double küchenwohntrends and möbel austria in Salzburg was concluded last week extremely successful and with a positive trade fair balance. The 239 enthusiastic and consistently over all days of the fair "demanded" exhibitors met a trade visitor rush that broke all records with +22.5 percent to the most successful event of the format so far in 2019 and even with +45 percent to the previous event in 2021.

The established B2B event for kitchen, dining and living from May 3 to 5, 2023 attracted over 5,800 trade visitors to the city of Mozart. If one adds to this the representatives on the exhibitor side, with a total presence of approx. 6,900 people, the tension-filled, euphoric trade fair atmosphere in the 15,000 square meter Hall 10 of the Salzburg exhibition grounds becomes completely comprehensible. In first place, as always and conceptually intended, were the Austrian visitors with a share of 69 percent. This clientele was followed by visitors from Germany (approx. 26 percent), Italy (a good 2 percent) and another 18 nations.

Trade fairs are increasingly developing into portals for knowledge transfer and trends away from the classic business - after all, this is precisely where the most qualified experts come together. Top speakers plus top topics: The range of lectures and discussions on offer was once again a bull's eye. Whether digitization of shopping experiences, use of robotics or AI, bioeconomy or circular economy - every exchange of opinions and ideas at the küchenwohntrends 2023 and möbel austria panel events remains a winner. The discussion forum on the equally often cited and perhaps misunderstood "Generation Z" was another highlight of the trade fair double.

The trade fair double sees training and further education as an essential part of the industry. Thus, not only the exhibiting companies benefited from the presence of numerous students from important educational institutions - such as the FH Salzburg/Campus Kuchl, the HTBLVA Ortwein/Graz, the HTL Mödling/Department of Interior Design or the Furnishing Consultant School Kuchl - but also the networking with seasoned professionals from the industry quickly and repeatedly led to win-win situations. Parallel to this rather informal exchange of knowledge, the coveted podium events were the central point of contact as a curated event when "Food for Thought" was served up in Salzburg.

For the first time, the "BMK Innovation Award 2023" was awarded at the trade fair double. Every two years, innovative products and thus also the innovative strength of the companies behind them are honored. A three-part jury, consisting of the trade, the press and the BMK board, evaluates the submitted innovations. The prizes were presented by students of the furniture school in Cologne. With great euphoria, the company Bauformat was awarded first place in the kitchen furniture category; the companies Burger Küchen and Ballerina Küchen were voted second and third. Miele, Smeg and Liebherr were nominated for the kitchen appliances category, with Miele receiving the best award. The highest nomination for the category of kitchen accessories received the company Naber followed by the companies Systemceram and Dein Konfigurator. "What clearly distinguishes the BMK Innovation Award from conventional design awards in the industry is its direct reference to the market. Only what proves itself in sales is also voted number 1 by the dealers of our members." lets BMK Chairman Hans Hermann Hagelmann announce.

The entire industry lives from such forward-looking impulses, reminded Dr. Georg Emprechtinger (Chairman at the Association of the Austrian Furniture Industry) at the trade fair press conference. The TEAM 7 owner, a well-known solid wood furniture manufacturer, further stated: "The Austrian furniture industry is a strong community of many different manufacturers. (...) Careful manufacturing, high-quality materials and individuality are just as important as customer-oriented service, reliability and delivery reliability. Qualities that are also in demand at möbel austria and küchenwohntrends. After all, the Salzburg trade fair has firmly established itself as a major industry event and offers domestic companies in particular a platform for presenting the latest innovations and playing to their strengths."

Another highlight of this year's trade fair was the after-work party, which brings the large fan community and "küchenwohntrends and möbel austria family" closer and closer together.

To the numbers: The evaluation of the visitor statistics according to occupational groups or industry segments is interesting: The strongest demand for the trade fair double this year was from carpenters or joiners (24%), which corresponds to the growing importance of this guild. This was closely followed by the furniture trade with a good 23%, representatives of kitchen studios (20%), architects and interior designers (9%) and decision-makers from the furniture and kitchen furniture industry (6%). With three per cent the portion of guests from of building, kitchen specialized and electrical markets was relatively small, but of high demand power excellently. It was also pleasing to see that numerous project planners, real estate developers and contract partners made their way to Salzburg.

With more than one third of all visitors, managing directors and owners are the most strongly represented group among the trade show guests. 1,370 guests from the area of responsibility sales and distribution underline the value of this trade fair double.

The sixth edition of the trade fair double can be considered a wonderful success, which should actively inspire both the event series itself and the players in the market for kitchen and living. The attention to detail and design perfection on the part of the trade fair organizers, which was evident everywhere, corresponded closely with the innovations presented by the exhibitors on equally sophisticatedly designed exhibition stands. The industry is therefore eagerly awaiting the next trade fair küchenwohntrends and möbel austria from Wednesday, May 7, to Friday, May 9, 2025.
